Intros Flows
Your Intros “Flow” is the way in which your members will be connecting with each other. We offer three different flows, each with unique traits that make them appealing to different types of community admins.
By the end of this document, you should be able to:
- Understand the differences between the three flows
- Decide which flow will work best for you and your community
- Implement that flow
Summary of each Intros flow
[See more about each flow, with a walkthrough & examples, below]
Auto (Weekly) Matching: Members decide if they want a weekly, biweekly, or monthly introduction with someone else in the community. The reason it’s called Auto matching is because once you set it up, Intros takes care of the rest!
Ad-hoc Matching: The admin (you) decides when a round of introductions goes out. You can invite all members to the round with custom Intros invitations, and they’ll receive an introduction (or a video link!) at the time you choose.
Event Matching: The admin (you) decides what day(s) and time(s) you’d like a batch of Intros to be sent out. Only new members (members who haven’t filled out the matching form yet) will be able to opt-into event matching rounds.*
*This will be changing in an upcoming product release (before the end of Q1) to allow existing members to opt-in for events.
Intros Flows In Detail
WEEKLY MATCHING
As mentioned above, members can individually decide if they want a weekly, biweekly, or monthly introduction with someone else in the community. Admins can also decide which options are available to members in the settings tab.
For example, if you (as the admin) only want bi-weekly matches within your club, you can select that in settings, and members won’t have the ability to change to weekly or monthly.
If you offer a variety of introduction choices, not every member is matched every week, but opt-in emails will still be sent weekly. You’ll be able to see which members received opt-in emails on the Insights tab.
As the admin, you can also choose what day & time the opt-in email & introduction emails go out each week. The opt-in email (sent at least 48 hours before the introduction email) simply asks members if they are available/would like to receive a match in the upcoming round. If they select yes, then they’ll receive the introduction email a few days later.
Once you’ve set your Intros club up and invited/uploaded your members, your club will run on complete auto mode!

Auto (weekly) example admin use-cases
- Alumni network: A university sets up an Intros club for all alumni to optionally join. The admin would like to connect alumni in similar fields with common interests, and they set up the matching form accordingly. The admin decides weekly is too frequent for members to connect, so they only offer bi-weekly & monthly matching. After adding their custom branding to the community, they announce the launch of their Intros club in an alumni newsletter with the link to the join form. They continue adding the join form link in newsletters, and also put it on their university’s alumni page. They can check the insights tab whenever they’d like to review feedback forms and see how connections are going, but the admin has no additional set up required.
- Corporation - employee network: A large corporation with 1K+ employees decides they’d like to create an Intros club to increase employe engagement and connect people at similar stages in their career across various departments. The admin uses career stage, department, and interests outside of work to connect employees, and sets up the matching form accordingly. They want members to choose their own frequency, so they offer weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly matching. After adding their custom branding to the community, they announce the launch of their Intros club in a company-wide email with the link to the join form. They also email department heads, and ask them to promote sign-up within their department. Department heads are added to the Intros club as additional admins, so that they can check out the Insights tab & see how connections with employees in their department are going. They choose to highlight a few great connections that were made in each company-wide monthly newsletter.
- Cohort-based 12 week course: The admin of cohort-based course decides they’d like to increase their course’s value by matching member’s together once a week. The goal is to have members form valuable connections with their peers while discussing course-related content & personal interests outside of the course. They want their members to receive one match per week of the course, so they select weekly matching for all members. After adding custom branding to the community, they add the link to sign up for the Intros club to the onboarding instructions, and request that all members sign up before the course’s start date. After launching & ensuring all cohort members are signed up, the admin has no further set up or monitoring requirements on the Intros club. They can focus on delivering high quality course content, while knowing Intros is working behind the scenes to create high quality matches between members every week.
AD-HOC MATCHING
In the Ad-Hoc matching flow, admins will choose when a round of introductions goes out. You can schedule as many ad-hoc matching flows as you want, and in as far advance as you want!
There are two ways in which a member can sign up for a matching round:
- If they are a new member, they can opt-in to matching rounds when they join your community (the already scheduled, upcoming matching rounds will be displayed on your club’s join form).
- If they are an existing member, you can send them an invite, which will enable a 1-click opt-in. You can invite all members to each individual round with custom invitations, and you can send multiple invitations out to the same event to serve as reminders.
You’ll be able to see how many members have opted-in to each matching round on the ad-hoc flows page.
You also have the choice to send scheduling links or video chat links with the ad-hoc introduction. This allows you to treat certain ad-hoc matching rounds like an event if you would like, with all members receiving their match & hopping on the call right after.
We recommend Ad-Hoc matching for community leaders who want to be a bit more “hands on” with the timing of their matches, that value flexibility in scheduling matching rounds, or for those who want all community members to be able to opt-into each matching round.

Ad-hoc example admin use cases
- Founder network The community manager of an application-based network of founders wants to save time, and switch from manually matching member’s together to automated matching through Intros. The admin recognizes that there are many nuances to matching founders together in order for them to receive the most value out of a conversation, so they craft a very detailed matchmaking form. The admin has some of this information already, so they utilize Zapier to automatically create member profiles, and request that Founders fill in the rest of their information from their member profiles. (The admin also has the ability to collect the remaining information using a different surveying method, and map those responses into Intros using Zapier). The admin wants to frame each matching round as a different experience, and can toggle various member tags on & off in the settings tab to tailor how matches are made each round. They decide that monthly rounds will work best, and create ad-hoc events for the third Monday of the month for the next six months. After adding custom branding to the community, and mapping member data in, they send out invitations to all members for the first round of matching through the ad-hoc tab. Here, they can track everyone who has signed up, and can send additional invitations to members who have yet to sign up.
- Mentor x mentee matching The community manager of an application based, womxn only professional community wants to connect members new to the workforce with more experienced members in a similar industry. The admin wants mentees & mentors to form a strong relationship before sending out another round of mentee x mentor matches, so they decide to set up ad-hoc rounds once every two months. The manager has all of the necessary information needed to match members, so they utilize Zapier to auto-create member profiles. They set up custom logic on the matching form using “match across groups” to ensure that only mentors & mentees get paired together. After adding custom branding to the community, and mapping member data in, they send out invitations to all members for the first round of matching through the ad-hoc tab. Here, they can track everyone who has signed up, and can send additional invitations to members who have yet to sign up.
EVENTS
In the Events flow, you (the admin) decides what day(s) and time(s) you’d like a batch of Intros to be sent out. Only new members (members who haven’t filled out the matching form yet) will be able to opt-into event matching rounds.
Unlike Weekly or Ad-Hoc matching, which include a scheduling link for members to set up a meeting on their own time, Events give you the option to send a calendar invite with a video link at the time the match is made )or allows you to disregard scheduling a virtual meeting altogether).
Please note: Events are currently only available for new member communities; clubs with existing members will not be able to invite those members to events. In the case where you’d like to have recurring Intros rounds with existing community members, we recommend using staggered ad-hoc events, though we plan to add existing member invites to events within a few weeks. 🙂

Event example admin use cases
- In-person crypto conference: Event organizers decide they’d like conference attendees to connect with each other based on specific interest in crypto fields before the event. That way, they’ll ideally have a few “built-in buddies” once they arrive to the conference, and they can attend events together. Any interested members fill out the matching form two weeks before the crypto event, and can select to receive between one and five matches. They can do this by selecting which times they’d like to receive introductions on the matchmaking form. The organizers choose not to send out calendar invites, and instead encourage members to connect with each other however they feel most comfortable before meeting each other in person at the “Crypto connect” stand at the event. Most members choose to reach out to each other via email & social media links.
- Online industry speed dating Event organizers want to connect members with three different people across three different industries after the opening event presentation. The questions on the matchmaking form are included in the Typeform members use to sign up for the event, and the event organizers then map those answers directly into Intros. The admin would like back to back to back matches that last 30 minutes each, so they select 3:30pm, 4:00pm, and 4:30pm. They also decide to auto-opt all members into all three times, as the “speed dating” aspect is the main part of the online event. The Intros algorithm calculates matches 15 minutes prior to each match, so members will receive their match (& the respective calendar link to join the video call) a few minutes before each selected time slot.
